Calmness and Courage

I was waken up by a really bad dream this morning. I felt really shaken and depressed by it. Usually I tend to have “hang over” from such dream and it affect my mood for the rest of the day.

I was sitting at the edge of my bed and the bottles of essential oils caught the corner of my eyes. I reached out desperately as I really trying to search for some strength. Scrambling through my collections and fished out Peace & Calming and Valor to inhale deeply.

Frankly speaking, I was quite surprised that I was able to recover myself quite quickly vs my past encounter.  No hangover feeling for the day (Yeah!). The EOs have once again proven their usefulness at a needy time 🙂

Taking control of health and wellness

There are many ways in which a quality essential oil can help with our daily life, here are some :

  • Relieve stress and anxiety
  • Relieve occasional sleeplessness
  • Enjoy natural relaxation
  • Protect our body from harmful substances
  • Support our body’s immune system
  • Rejuvenate your skin
  • Support proper digestion
  • Provide support to our bones and muscles
  • Increase mental clarity

Before you are flooded with all the raves and sales talk, have you ever wonder where is the credible source which you can read up on the science beyond essential oils ? What are the researches done ?  I would suggest that you can check out the US National Library of Medicine, do a search on “essential oils” or any specific term such as “lavender essential oil”. The library will provide you with a wealth of information that may answer your doubts better than anywhere.

I want to get educated and take control of my health & wellness, do you ?

Bye Bye Night Terrors

peace and calming eo

Oiling session = Bonding + Peaceful nights

My 20 months old DS is a challenge when I talk about sleeping. We set routines, kept the activities low key before sleeping time. However, his nights were rarely restful and he often woke up screaming. Many had told me either he has not played enough or he has played too much.

I tried Lavender essential oil as the first option since it is calming and a natural sleeping aid. It did calm my DS and help him to fall asleep a little bit faster BUT my boy continues to wake up screaming in the middle of the night *sighz*. I continue to search and learned that both Peace & Calming Blend and Gentle Baby Blend are recommended by many parents. Being budget conscience (well, a good quality essential oils are never cheap), I picked Peace & Calming and pray hard that it can work.

The blend is very gentle and fragrant but just 2-3 drops can really fill up the room. Personally, I like to diffuse it so everyone can enjoy the benefits.

Back to my DS, I used P&C on two scenarios :
(1) if DS is still very active and refuse to rest, I would normally do a topical application (swipe under the feet / behind the ears). Everyone in my household knows how much he enjoys the oiling sessions. I must say it is a great way for bonding. Afterall, which child does not enjoy tender loving care & attention from parents. I must say this has helped to set the prelude for a restful night.
(2) if DS is finally resting after some “drama” before I did any topical application, I would just drop 2-3 drops of the essential oil into the diffusing to help him to enjoy a restful night.

DS does wake up in the middle of the night occasionally but he is also quickly to go back into his sleep without the usual screaming (Yippee!). Finally, I can claim more beauty sleep and less battles with stressful screaming nights. Peace !!

a MUST HAVE for my family

Familycombo1

Familycombo1 details

I have 3 young children and always “on call” to manage their eczema,, sensitive airway,  nasal congestion, coughs.  It is also a nightmare whenever there are HFMD or other viruses surfacing in the school.

The medical bills to GP/TCM/Paediatricians, the stress of preventing the viruses from spreading to other siblings, the amount of medicines into the body, interrupted sleep (checking on kiddos) and finally the downtime (for adults) are definitely not what any of us want. Forcing medicines down the throat of my youngest toddler is definitely a stressful situation but we could not think of any alternatives to help the young ones.

Enough said, it was by desperation that I turned to essential oils. And GOSH ! I wish I have learnt about this powerful yet natural remedies much earlier !

The convincing part came when my 18 months old boy was down with very bad cough, wheezing and thick phlegm. He could hardly sleep due to difficulties in breathing. I have to carry him upwards while sitting down (leaning on  a wall) so that he could breathe a bit better and hopefully catch a little bit more rest. Imagine he could only keep minimum food down (or almost none as he vomited them out with the coughs) We were all ready to send him to hospital if it could not get better.

To cut the story short, I googled for what are the things which can help him.  After reading through some testimonials and checking with friends, I decided to grab some essential oils and did the following :-

  • applied thieves on the soles to fight viruses and to help with recovery
  • applied R.C (diluted) to the chest and back to relieve the congestion and coughs
  • applied Myrrh (diluted) to the chest and back to break down the phlegm
  • diffuse thieves to kill airborne viruses so it will minimise the chance of spreading to my other kiddos.
  • diffuse RC (alternate with thieves) to soothe the coughs.

You should see how relief I am when my boy finally vomited out some stubborn phlegm on the same night I started on the oils (which has never happened before even with medication). On the next morning, my mum actually noticed how much my boy has recovered (less wheezing sounds and less phlegmy). It prompted me to continue the essential oils and by the next day, I must say my boy has recovered at least 80%.

I am grateful that I have found a powerful yet natural remedies from this episode ! A great thank you to my new love – essential oils *muacks*
